Legislation and Compliance
RoHS Certificate of Compliance
EU Directives 2011/65/EU and 2015/863 restrict the use of the 10 substances below in the manufacture of specified types of electrical equipment.
Whilst this restriction does not legally apply to components, it is recognised that component “compliance” is relevant to many customers.
RS definition of RoHS Compliance:
- The product does not contain any of the restricted substances in concentrations and applications banned by the Directive,
- and for components, the product is capable of being worked on at the higher temperatures required by lead–free soldering
The restricted substances and maximum allowed concentrations in the homogenous material are, by weight:
Substance | Concentration |
Lead | 0.1% |
Mercury | 0.1% |
PBB (Polybrominated Biphenyls) | 0.1% |
PBDE ( Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers) | 0.1% |
Hexavalent Chromium | 0.1% |
Cadmium | 0.01% |
DEHP (Bis (2-Ethylhexl) phthalate) | 0.1% |
BBP (Benzyl butyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
DBP (Dibutyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
DIBP (Diisobutyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
The supplier of the item listed below has informed RS Components that the product is "RoHS Compliant".
RS Components has taken all reasonable steps to confirm this statement. Information relates only to products sold on or after the date of this certificate.

Product Details
The Speedbloc® connector system comprises ranges of insulation displacement connectors; cable mounting sockets with mating PCB mounting plugs, edge connectors, d.i.l. and transition connectors, ’D’ connector plugs and sockets. Used in conjunction with the Speedbloc®. IDC ribbon cable they allow quick, simple and cost-saving cable assemblies to be made, in addition to enabling the user to add to, or extend existing ribbon cable systems using any universal IDC tooling. For further information refer to each product. To assist manufacture of PCB’s use single symbol etch resist transfers. See PCB’s and Prototyping Systems section.
RS PRO Bump Polarised IDC Sockets
From RS PRO, this high-quality IDC connector is an excellent solution to terminating cables in low voltage power applications quickly and easily. With a tough glass-filled polyester housing and contacts made from beryllium copper, this IDC connector is a robust and reliable wire-to-board solution.
The connector also features a central bump polarisation and double depth polarising grooves in the socket body for ease of mating. The design of the IDC incorporates a built-in strain relief, for peace of mind when writing important PCB and SMT connections.
This cable mount IDC connector supports up to a 1A current and 15Ω contact resistance.
Features and Benefits
• Strong polyester housing
• Central Bump Polarization
• Operating temperature from -45°C to +105°C
• Supports a 1.27mm cable pitch
Applications
IDCs are designed to be used with flat ribbon cables, and can support a huge range of wire-to-board applications. They’re mainly used in computers connecting drives, cd drives, SSD’s and other components that aren’t on the motherboard. They’re also found in phones, laptops and plenty of other devices.
An IDC connector is also known as an insulation displacement connector, this is because it terminates by slicing through a cable's insulation and making a ’cold-weld’ from the connector to the wire. With no soldering or specialist tooling to worry about, IDC connectors save a huge amount of time compared to stripping the wires, so makes for an easy and efficient install. As such, when it comes to reducing assembly times, these connectors are an attractive option.
