Legislation and Compliance
RoHS Certificate of Compliance
EU Directives 2011/65/EU and 2015/863 restrict the use of the 10 substances below in the manufacture of specified types of electrical equipment.
Whilst this restriction does not legally apply to components, it is recognised that component “compliance” is relevant to many customers.
RS definition of RoHS Compliance:
- The product does not contain any of the restricted substances in concentrations and applications banned by the Directive,
- and for components, the product is capable of being worked on at the higher temperatures required by lead–free soldering
The restricted substances and maximum allowed concentrations in the homogenous material are, by weight:
Substance | Concentration |
Lead | 0.1% |
Mercury | 0.1% |
PBB (Polybrominated Biphenyls) | 0.1% |
PBDE ( Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers) | 0.1% |
Hexavalent Chromium | 0.1% |
Cadmium | 0.01% |
DEHP (Bis (2-Ethylhexl) phthalate) | 0.1% |
BBP (Benzyl butyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
DBP (Dibutyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
DIBP (Diisobutyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
The supplier of the item listed below has informed RS Components that the product is "RoHS Compliant".
RS Components has taken all reasonable steps to confirm this statement. Information relates only to products sold on or after the date of this certificate.

Product Details
RS Pro Nickel Plated Brass Hexagonal Threaded Standoffs
From RS Pro a range of robust, high-quality hexagonal shaped standoffs made from nickel plated brass with a metric internal thread or threaded stud on either end. These versatile standoffs are designed to securely mount your PCB as well as elevating it from other components such as the inside of a computer chassis or another PCB. They are also ideal for improving airflow space around components when the equipment becomes hot. These stand-offs are available in a range of different heights and threads sizes to suit a wide range of PCB applications
What are Threaded Standoffs?
Standoffs are used to separate a PCB by a set distance from other components or a base board serving a similar function as spacers. These standoffs are available with male-female or female-female configurations to suit a wide range of PCB applications. The female-female has an internal thread either end. The male-female has an internal thread one end and an external threaded stud or screw the other to enable components to be joined together.
Features and Benefits
• Versatile and easy to fit
• Hexagonal design allows tightening with a wrench
• Lock PCB securely into place
• Brass material for mechanical strength and resistance to high-temperature environments. Metal standoffs also keep electrical conductivity when looking to maintain a circuit
• Nickel plating for resistance to corrosion
Questions and Answers
How do the Standoffs Fit Together?
The correct size standoff is selected and inserted into or aligned with pre-drilled holes in the PCB. A metric screw or a nut is then fastened onto or into the thread of the standoff to lock and hold it securely in place. The nuts and screws can be released and retightened as required. A male standoff can be screwed into a female standoff providing the threads are the same size.
Where are these Standoffs used?
These standoffs are used in various electronic applications for creating spacing between individual PCBs where they act as spacers and to separate PCB boards from other components. The brass construction of these stand-offs means they are ideal for use in applications where high mechanical strength is required and in high-temperature environments. These applications range from consumer electronics and office machinery to datacoms and telecommunications equipment.
